What is ETEA?
ETEA is the educational level testing agency used in KPK, and is acronym for educational testing and evaluation agency. It aims to conduct fair and merit based enterance and recruitment tests and educational level. Due to its wide scope and standarized system for recruitment it is used in several government departmental tests such as:
- School educational jobs
- Police jobs

- Other government and semi government jobs
Recently ETEA has conducted job test in educational departments at various posts ( PST, TT, AT,CT PET and CTIT).
Current situation of ETEA tests in KPK
Recently ETEA has conducted several screening tests for teaching jobs across the KPK, also introducing a new reform of including negative marking in the policy.
ETEA passing merit 2025 in KPK is upto 50% marks candidates with atleast such marks are eligible for computer based tests (CBT). ETEA released provisional merit lists for the elementary and secondary department (ESD) in teacher recruitments. So the candidates who meats ETEA merit criteria and get 50% marks will be selected for jobs. Currently ETEA has faced several challenges due to its additional policy “Negative Marking” including public criticism and candidate protest but the government is trying to introduce reforms for greater transperancy.
Why candidates are expecting merit to decrease?
Although the ETEA merit criteria is securing atleast 50% marks, but still candidates are suspicious and expecting the ETEA to decrease its merit due to high complicated screening test specially for PST recruitment. It is claimed by majority of candidates that PST recruitment test was quite tough from all other jobs related exams. Besides this there are several other factors contribute to the expectations including imbalance between of passed candidates and available vacancies as number of students who meats ETEA passing merit 2025 is less than the vacancies, along with district wise quota system with further limits the vacancies so the applicants are uncertain about ETEA merit criteria.
ETEA official merit policy
ETEA merit policy contains 50% marks for the candidates in screening test, so to inter in computer based (CBT) tests. However it was also mentioned in the policy that if some regions contains less passing applicants than vacancies, if the number of passed candidates in screening test does not meet the requirement of available seats in that region, than ETEA can reduce its merit upto some extent, mostly it is expected upto 30% marks. for current recruitment tests, no such authentic reforms is approved, but still there are chance, that government can takes some steps for decreasing ETEA merit in KPK.
Wil merit decreasing in 2025?
As it was already mentioned that still ETEA has not announced any reform to decreasing merit, but there are some evidences and past year examples which makes the applicants concerned about decreasement of ETEA merit criteria. The official policy allowed for relaxation of marks obtained, if sufficient candidates were not available but the question that arise is, how much can ETEA reduced its merit so the expected ETEA merit decrease in 2025 specially for PST recruitment is upto 30% as there is example of relaxation of passing marks, which was proposed for the PST recruitment in past year in KPK in area that contain vacant seats. Although a formal statement of ETEA manager on merit decrease is not published yet, but the situation reflects the concern that there are many unfilled positions especially in PST. Various regions in KPK, candidates are also campaigning to lower the merit to 30% or 40%.
Educational minister statement about merit loss
Candidates demands for merit reduction to the education minister “Faisal khan Tarakai “on various social media platforms. However verified statement is not found by education minister itself by ETEA merit criteria. However several posts on different social media platforms shows that these are chances to reduce the merit upto 30% by education minister of Pakistan.
When merit decrease?
According to several past records and ETEA merit policy, it is concluded that ETEA decrease its merit beyond 50% if number of applicants are less than vacant seats or less candidates meats ETEA passing criteria, or there is district wise quota system. As all the points are applicable on recently exam so there are much more chances of ETEA to reduced it merit. However the official news with proper guidance and information will be announced after education minister meetings, placing student demands and request on it.
